Out Of The Pit - Part 2
Day 2 coming out of the pit of doubt, fear, and unbelief.
What I believe God said clearly and plainly to me today.
Today's Experiencing God Day-By-Day devotional was about love and obedience (John 14:21). Genuine love for God leads to wholehearted obedience. Obedience does not lead to wholehearted love. Obedience is the fruit of genuine love. Obedience without love is legalism, which will either lead to pride or despair. God looks beyond your moral lifestyle, and beyond your church involvement, and focuses His penetrating gaze upon your heart.
Return to your first love.
Father, it feels strange to ask You to help me fall in love with You but that's what I'm asking. I guess if it was easy or automatic to love You then You wouldn't have needed to command it. Help me to return to You, my first love. I want to fulfill the greatest commandment (Mark 12:30), but I admit I can't do it in my own strength. I ask You to lead me there. Captivate me. Arrest my heart, my soul, my mind, and my strength. Lead me in Your way everlasting. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
I received an email from my Dad this morning referencing today's Our Daily Bread devotional. I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise but I'm glad I did. Here's what I believe God said clearly and plainly to me through it.
Where Our Fears Live
(1 Kings 17:17-24)
The widow of Zarephath had her doubts. Her son had died and, in her despair, she cried out...and God answered. We serve a God who is mightier than the struggle we inherit and who is full of the desire to forgive, love, and to heal the brokenness that rises up between us and Him.
God is present in the places where our fears live.
Father, thank you for today's devotional. You are present in my struggle with fear, doubt, and unbelief. Make Yourself known to me in my weakest moments and in my greatest fears. Help me to believe. Help my will. Help me to choose to actively believe in the midst of feeling fear and doubt. I invite you into this place in my heart and I ask You to heal me. I love you! Breathe life and faith into me. Revive me, O Lord. I need You! Thank you for speaking to me. Thank you for responding to my prayers. Help me take each step of faith with You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
